We’re sure you’ve got questions about applying for an internship position, so we’ve pulled together some of the most frequently asked ones.
Co-ops are students who are formally registered in a cooperative education program at a post-secondary institution and earn credits from their work term to satisfy their degree or diploma requirements. Interns may be current students or recent graduates who are completing a work term that might not be necessary to fulfill any academic requirements. We hire co-ops and interns.
You are welcome to apply so long as the end date of the work term you are applying to is within 6 months of your graduation date. In this case, you would be considered an intern.
Yes, all student internships and co-ops are paid.
You must be legally eligible to work in Canada, the USA or India for internships. Please refer to each individual open job posting for country specifications. Interns and co-ops work with teams in Ottawa, Toronto, Dallas and Chennai. During the Covid-19 pandemic, co-ops and internships are remote until further notice.
While Kinaxis does have strong and ongoing relationships with certain schools, we accept applications from students regardless of where they study. As long as you’re studying a relevant program to the job at hand and meet the minimum requirements, your application will be considered.
While most of our students are typically hired into our product development teams, the co-op and internship program has expanded to include students in Professional Services, Sales, Global Customer Care, Strategy, Finance, Marketing, and Human Resources.
Kinaxis hires the best candidate for the job, whether that is a first year or fourth year student, or anything in between. We even hire post-graduate students at the Masters and Ph.D. level.
With very few exceptions, internships and co-op positions are full-time (40 hours/week). Part-time opportunities are sometimes available for our current students who are returning to full-time studies.
Work term length is position specific. Kinaxis offers 4-, 8- and 12-month work terms.
Kinaxis offers co-op work terms and internships all year round, in the winter (January – April), summer (May – August) and fall (September – December) terms.
Open positions are posted three times a year to our Kinaxis Careers page, as well as to some of our partner school co-op job boards. If a position is listed on our careers page, the job has not yet been filled. If you are checking out our careers section outside of a hiring cycle, you are encouraged to read our Team Descriptions above to get an idea of what positions may open up in future work terms
While Kinaxis does posts internship positions three times a year to coincide with the winter, fall, and summer terms, sometimes we may hire a current student on an 8 month or longer term, making that particular job available less often. Other jobs are only available for 4 months, making the position available more often to new hires.
Please apply on our Careers open positions page for the upcoming work term. If your school is advertising a Kinaxis position on its co-op job portal, please ensure that you have also applied directly through the Kinaxis Careers page. Only applications made via our careers page will be considered. If there are no available positions or positions of interest to you at the present time, you are encouraged to join our Student Talent Community for future consideration.
We typically start the recruitment process for our student jobs four months before a term start date (e.g. in January we hire for the May – August term). You can find our current open jobs here. However, you are encouraged to apply even earlier – up to a year in advance – by joining our Student Talent Community and indicating your future planned work terms.
Kinaxis receives thousands of student applications every term so it’s important to put thought and effort into each job you are applying to in order to move on for further consideration. Take a look at the job requirements on the job posting and make sure you address each of those bullet points on your resume.
It is often helpful to customize your resume for each unique job rather than relying on one generic resume for every job you apply to. Don’t just list your past duties. Think in terms of how you added value with those duties. What did you accomplish in your past roles? If you don’t have a lot of past experience (or any), don’t be afraid to highlight personal or academic projects that highlight the skills you have that are needed for the job you are applying to. If you are mentioning a group project, be sure to identify your contributing role to the success of the project.
If the opportunity is there to attach a cover letter, use this space to add context to items listed in your resume. Don’t simply repeat what is already in the body of the resume. It’s also a great place to express your ‘why’. Why this job, this team, this company, this industry? What are your future career goals and how will the position assist you in getting closer to that goal?
Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it’s not possible to follow up with every applicant. We only contact candidates moving forward to the interview stage. If you are selected for an interview, an invitation will be sent to you via email. Depend on the timing of your application, typically interviews are conducted three to four months in advance of the start dates. For example:
When a position is filled, all applicants will be notified by email as a notification that the role is closed.
Co-op and internship jobs typically consist of one round of interviewing lasting 30 to 60 minutes. They may be face-to-face or web-based interviews.
All candidates who are interviewed will hear back within two weeks regarding the outcome, regardless if they are the chosen candidate or not.
Once an offer has been made, candidates typically have 48 hours to respond before the offer expires.
A lot of thought and effort goes into planning a student’s work term at Kinaxis. Co-ops and interns are treated like permanent members of the team and are included in relevant meetings, brainstorming sessions and team building activities. Meaningful tasks and projects that add practical value are assigned so that students can contribute to the overall goals of the team and company. There is no busy-work here.
Students are given the freedom to learn and explore based on their interests and career goals and are encouraged to ask questions and express their opinions with the promise that they will be taken into consideration. Students offer a fresh perspective and a unique sense of wonder that breaks the status quo and allows the company to see things from a different point of view and this diversity of thought contributes to Kinaxis’ overall success.
In addition to all the wonderful connections and development opportunities students will receive from their individual teams, considerable effort is also made to ensure the co-ops and interns are also connecting with one another.
Kinaxis coordinates social groups made up exclusively of students and offers multiple channels and activities to connect on a regular basis. We also focus on strengthening soft skills during the placement through various career development workshops. What’s more, we have a formal mentorship program that students are eligible to participate in, as well as many employee resource groups offering further support for personal and career development. We offer regular Tech Talks and Biz Talks, as well as an annual Hackathon that students are welcome to participate in.
